I've seen an active volcano! I took a bus from San Carlos to La Fortuna and spent a few days in the city. There isn't much to do in La Fortuna except visit Volcan Arenal. Since the weather wasn't great to see the volcano, I spent a few days talking to American ex-pats about politics and reading some books until the weather cleared. I also met a great group of people in La Fortuna.
