Goryeo Palace

goryeopalace.jpg

On the island of Gangwha-do is the Goryeo Palace. This palace site, fairly small, was constructed in 1232, a few years after the royal court fled here to escape the Mongols. For 39 years the Goryeo royal family stayed here. Then the place was left until 1636 when the then-current royal family used it to escape from the Manchus...who took the palace over in 1637. From time to time in the next several decades, the palace site was used for gov't offices. This is part of what I consider the main building.
