What Animal is This?

Today I checked out the school's zoo. Seriously.

We have rabbits.

We have ducks.

We have chickens.

And we have these. What are these? Turkeys? Grouse? Geese? Anyone know?

Speaking of animals, I didn't know this when I was hired, but the school provides lunch free of charge to everyone. Yesterday's lunch was rice and kimchi (of which I had a tiny amount), some other vegetables, an eggy thing (like an omelette, I think it had ham in it), pork and shrimp (didn't eat) and a bowl of soup with a fish head floating in it. I tried to be a sport and eat at least some broth and vegetables from the soup, but I couldn't do it. Not with a giant fish head there. Looking at me.

Today lunch was rice with a few peas in it, kimchi (of which I had a tiny amount), some really yummy potato thing, cooked spinach, pork and shrimp (didn't eat), and some fabulous spicy bean sprout soup.

Tonight we're going out for dinner with some English teacher from New Zealand that Ali met last week.

Could it be a guinea fowl, or guinea hen?? On the fish head soup - I grew up eating fish head chowder - but I know that it is off-putting to people who aren't used to it. And if you top it off by being a vegetarian it can really work against you. That was the first thing my now DH ate at my house - and in my home you were served the first dish - but after that if you wanted more you served yourself - when he went to the pot to get another bowl I imagine his face looked like yours when he saw the head looking up at him - he stood there for a minute and you could actually see the thought process and the moment he decided that he liked it before he knew what it was so what the heck. Bet you didn't think your entry today would bring back a 35 yr old memory for one of your readers :D

I'm still laughing! I can just envision you looking at the fish head as it stares up at you! I love fish, but prefer to leave the head off when eaten! As for the unknown fowl...the guinea's I have met have had longer necks and smoother feathers. Perhaps a baby guinea?

I think it's either a grouse or Larry King. Can you get it to straighten up??? Ok, it's Larry King.

It's a turkey, by the way. It's huge now.

An American educator moves to Korea, presumably to teach English. Instead she discovers that learning Korean one taekwondo class at a time is a more captivating activity.
