Japan Photos Are Up and Today Sucked

Photos from Japan are up under the Gallery tab.

So today basically sucked. I was supposed to go to physical therapy and then some sort of activity at the Kukkiwon with Master and who knows who else, but I got some sort of virus or food poisoning and was too sick to leave the house except to buy some Cider (7-Up) and Pocari Sweat. Yes, I drink something called Sweat.

I had an exhausting four minute phone conversation with Master about the doctor, physical therapy, Japan, when I was coming back, why I was sick, etc. It is so much harder to communicate without the facial cues and body language; it's good for me.

When we hung up, I just put my head on my desk. I wonder if he did the same thing.

Hey, I love Pocari Sweat . . . and you could imagine my surprise when I found it in Japan!

Yeah, communicating over the phone with a Korean is difficult when it's over the phone. To be honest, at times it's pretty depressing just trying to communicate in person. Another reason why foreigners should at least try to learn the language.

It's actually a Japanese drink according to Wikipedia!

We were speaking mostly Korean—to me. To him, it's quite possible we were speaking mostly English! In Korean the words for "Monday" and "Tuesday" sound so similiar and sometimes he speaks just slightly faster than I can understand. Also, he speaks just enough English that sometimes it's confusing.

"Amanda, no taekwondo Monday?"

"No."

"No, no, I not here Monday."

"Oh, OK."

But I am thankful that he takes his time with me, makes sure I understand every weekend activity, etc.

Taekwondo IS my inspiration for learning Korean and I admit, after I lifted my head from the desk, I went though my flashcards again.

An American educator moves to Korea, presumably to teach English. Instead she discovers that learning Korean one taekwondo class at a time is a more captivating activity.
