After doing some kicking drills and poomse practice, we played soccer and I got injured. Big surprise, right? Except for the way it happened. I was sitting on the bench while the other teams played and Goalie was not being a goalie for once.
He went to kick the ball, his leg slid out from under him and ran into my foot, making my toes curl under and pushing my whole foot underneath the bench. That's the best way I can describe what happened.
It hurt.
My middle toe was the worst hit. It turned bloody red instantly and a third of the nail filled with blood. Master kept squeezing my toe and looking at his fingers. They were clean. He said, "멍, what 멍 in English?"
"Bruise."
I was shocked it wasn't really bleeding, it certainly looked like it was.
I asked for ice (using the word from "aiseu hockey") and amused the boys to no end when he started wrapping the bag of ice around my toe. Why? I used my arms to lift myself from the bench because it was so cold.
About ten minutes later, when class was over, he asked me to stand up, "run" (ie jumping lightly on your feet as in sparring), and kick with each foot. I did so. "OK, not hurt." Well, no, not doing that. It's walking and going up and down stairs that hurts.
I iced it a bit more at home, then put mentholatum on it. We'll see how bad it gets.
Schedule changes are afoot. Starting from tomorrow, we're only doing 90 min classes instead of two hour classes. He says the kids are too tired with school. I'm not sure why they weren't too tired last semester, and I'm a bit disappointed because I really like two hours. However! I will take it as a sign from on high that I need to get some more sleep (not that it's going to happen). Besides, better than cutting class down to an hour or moving class forward an hour so that I couldn't attend the full time anyhow. Frankly, I would still do my long commute just to stay at this studio if class were only an hour. One day I intend to be back on that side of town...
Also, belt test time has been changed from 11 am to 1 pm. Great, two more hours to fret. Master said he turned in my paperwork and it wasn't a problem, but I won't trust that until all is said and done. He said that foreigners weren't an issue, but I know that every paperwork-foreigner situation in Korea is different and often depends on the mood of the person who owns the desk your paperwork lands on. I wasn't sure if he meant foreigners who'd tested in our city in the past or who were testing with me. He said "no, not with you." I will not be surprised to be the only Westerner there.
