Knuckles

Master has been having us get into push-up position on our fists. We've been holding it for approximately 30 seconds.

After a week of doing this, my knuckles are almost done hurting.

Almost.

So you just get into knuckle push up position and stay like that? Is that to get used to the position? I've trying to do knuckle push ups, but my arms just feel weird and buckle or something. What is the right way to position your hands??

It's to strengthen the wrists and arms.

We make fists and then balance on the first two knuckles. Honestly, I am not sure I could describe it in words.

Usually towards the end he has us try pushups, but I am still too weak. Sigh.

Also, we're doing it on wooden floors with no padding of any sort.

Our studio is wooden floors too. Many times I've cursed it because I've gotten bruises on my knee (which I tend to baby) just from falling on the floor and banging it :P

Yeah, I've gotten bruises from hitting the floor. I have a big bruise on my hip from slamming my chest into the floor last week.

Once, in the States, I had a bruise above my knee. It was clearly shaped like toes. I'd gotten it freesparring. My students thought it was pretty cool looking.

Ah knuckle push-ups. I know them well. For one testing in California I had to do fifty. I did them, but I wouldn't be able to do so many now.

If I had to do 50, I wouldn't have my black belt.

Thank you, Korea.

An American educator moves to Korea, presumably to teach English. Instead she discovers that learning Korean one taekwondo class at a time is a more captivating activity.
