A few fifth grade girls are cleaning my room after class. (Kids clean the rooms in public schools, which I think is a great idea, frankly.)
They ask me what's in a big box on my test. "A tripod." One of girl looks at the label on the box and says, "Oh! 삼각대!"
While they're looking at the box, they pick up my handphone. The kids do this all the time. They slide it open and see Good Man's picture.
"Oh! Amanda Teacher! Uh! Uh! Amanda Teacher, boyfriend?"
Usually I just smile and say nothing when the kids do this. This time I say, "Yes. His name is [Mr Good Man]."
"Oh! Amanda Teacher! He Korean?"
"Yes, he's Korean."
The three girls are so excited they can barely contain themselves. "Amanda Teacher like Korean man? Amanda Teacher baek il? Baek il?" They look at each other, trying to figure out the English, "One hundred day have?"
"Yes, we did."
"Oh! Oh! Amanda Teacher! Very good!"
