Today...

I cheered for my country.

As recently as two years ago I was saying I didn't think I'd see a black person as a major party candidate before I was 60 years old. Wow.

(I have to say all of the "white women," "white women, of course" bits in articles are making me crazy.)

Yeah.....and all women have had the right to vote for less than 100 years. Black men have been voting longer than we have. "sigh"

Not that Ms. Clinton is the optimum candidate......

The thing is, I expected a woman sooner because of the '84 ticket. (Although look how well that turned out.)

It's the "and Clinton had women, of course" lines in the papers that have been bugging me. Like blacks and women are singular-minded simpletons but white men are actually complex enough to choose based on issues? And where does it put black women?

I also expect this post to cause me to lose some readers. Oh well.

I've really struggled with the issues in this campaign season--it's like a textbook for my grad school courses in race and gender issues. (And yeah, I wished for a woman president but would be very happy for an African-American one.) Very weird and uncomfortable sometimes, and the media really are putting their feet in their mouths with some of it, I think.

Welcome home Amanda. I hope you keep writing, I enjoy reading your blog, and I don't read many so I'd hate to have to find a new one:)

An American educator moves moved to Korea, presumably to teach English. Instead she discovers discovered that learning Korean one taekwondo class at a time is was a more captivating activity.

Somewhere along the way, she met a Good Man, fell in love, and ended up back in the States. Still doing taekwondo, still learning Korean...
